Hi! I'm currently a storyboard artist and character designer at Disney TV working on Wander Over Yonder! I just finished a 6 year run as a story artist at DreamWorks were I boarded on How To Train Your Dragon among other movies. I'm an Emmy Award winner for my character designs on "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". I've worked as a storyboard artist and character designer at Nickelodeon on Danny Phantom, and a character designer at Disney TV for too many projects to list. I've been nominated for 7 Annie Awards and have recently self published my first graphic novel: "Seaweed, and the Cure for Mildew." All work is is a copyright of me unless it's for some studio I'm working for.

Your art is so clean at the same time full of details! I like drawings that it is easy to understand without losing the quality!
That is some amazing stuff...love the rough work too, seeing the process is great. Thanks for posting!

Hey Ben
Awesome, awesome work. Not sure if I officially got to say goodbye last week, but just wanted to thank you again for all the advice, and looking at all my drawings.
Also, I posted the Wilt/Bloo/Poncho drawing you did for me on my blog.
So thanks again!
Wow looking awesome!
Wowzers!! Thanks for sharing the process.
Your lines are so tight!! I really enjoy seeign your process--there's just lots to learn from these.
Coooooooooooooooooooolllllllllll!!!!! Lookin' good!
Just curious...Being a fan of tradt'l inking, do you have a set of tools you prefer, eg., pens, paper, etc. or do you still try diff't things?
wow these are real nice, wonderful layout and linework. full of life and character!!
Thanks everyone!
Josh- Your welcome! Anyone with as much passion for animation as you have is bound to go far! Just give me a job when you hit it big!
Eric- I really like using PITT Artist Pens by Faber-Castell. They have pure archival india ink and last a long time. I use a combo of the brush tip for big sweeping lines, (very rarely), but mostly use the superfine tip and build up my lines with it. For really fine detail I bust out the Sakura Pigma Micron .005 tip.
As far as paper I always use the smoothest surface I can. These pages are on Strathmore 500 series Bristol Plate surface.
It's hard to describe with the written word but almost none of those lines are just me doing a quick sweeping line. They are almost all built up using little strokes as I "pull"the line towards me. Some of the tapering occurs from drawing the outside of the line and coloring it in.
The great Belgian comic artists all used brushes to ink with but I don't have the patience to learn that skill.
i know i might be sounding like a broken record here, but.. when is this gonna be published?? i'm salivating rite now! :)
so very cool
Wonderful! I love the storytelling and technique you used, Thanks for the step by step!
wow man, this is so beautiful.
i really cant wait for this to be done. the colors are really nice as well. nice INKS!
sheesh, you're nuts.
a little crit, the size of the characters on the boat (panel 1) are a little big it feels. seems like they wouldnt really fit inside the cabin that well. also maybe desaturating the island to push it back into the fog/clouds and push the depth of field.
(these are pathetic nit picks, who am i to give?)
it really looks amazing man, im inspired.

Mr. Ben! Its been forever! I wanted to call you but my life has been a crazy ups and downs lately. I couldn't keep up with it. I would've fall apart if it weren't for my parents calming me down over the phone. You know that feeling you get when you first graduated from college? That anxiety and insecurity? I felt like I didn't know what to do with myself. Get a job! Get a place! Get a LIFE! So I'm finally settling at Laika doing early development work. I'll be up here for a while, don't know how long. But I want to thank you again for helping me out over at CN. I owe you like a drink and meal. The next time I'm in town, which soon, I'll give you a call. cheers!
oh, great to see the progress!
Cool, great page. I'm really in love with that guy in the bottom right panel. The flow of his mouth has me spinning in circles, in a good way! I like the whole thing, but that mouth is really really fun!!
POST MOOOORREEEE!!
OVI - How dare you sir?!! HA! Ha! Just kidding those are great suggestions and I 'll try to incorporate them into the final.
Ed- Good to hear from you and glad to hear your doing well at Laika. Portland seems likeit was made for you!
Ben, this is soooo brilliant!!! I'm currently creating a personal comic and this has been truly inspirational for me!
Thanks.
I have one favor I would like to ask of you. If you could spare any of your time, I was wondering if you could give me an iota of feedback on my blog. I understand that you have deadlines and time constraints so I hope I'm not being imposing in any way.
nice...
appreciate the progression...

FANTÁSTICO!!
Interesting, I didn't like the composition on a lot of these panels in the first drawings, but then as it progressed toward inking and color, I realized the genious you were working under from the start! Nicely done.
Wow your work is totally beautiful!
Ben, thanks so much for your feedback! You don't know how much this was helpful for me!! Hope to hear from you soon!
