Seaweed Page Progression
Here's the pencil, ink, and color for page 4 of my graphic novel "Seaweed". The pencil and inks are done by hand and then colored in Photoshop. I've had a lot of requests from friends who have seen the completed pencil version of the book, to publish it as is. I definately will along with the tons of studies and thumbnails, but I really want to try to finish a fully inked and colored comic. I don't have much experience with color, so it is an exciting challenge to try using it more. Also, I haven't included the word baloons and lettering which I'm going to do on the computer. I found a great font that I bought off of Blambot.com that looks much better than my cruddy hand-lettering.
really nice stuff. I would love to see a penciled version also.

your finished colour page totaly reminds me of a classic comic from the 60's . I do mean it as a compliment. I have some old mickey mouse comics that are from Italy . for a guy who dodesn't know colour well, you sure fake it pretty darn good.

ReplyDeleteTt's great to see the progression on these. Thanks for posting it. Who's your publisher?
ReplyDeleteThis is really excellent stuff Ben.
ReplyDeleteThanks again everyone. In answer to your question, Doodlers, I'm currently going to publish it myself. Printing costs have gone down so much recently, that it seems a shame to give away profits and any creative control to an outside publisher. We'll see how it works out.
ReplyDeleteDang, Ben. You rock.
ReplyDeleteThis is astonishing work! The pen work freaks me out! I feel like have parkinsons when I use my brush pen!! :)
