Vortex

It's been a long time since I posted any Danny Phantom artwork and in honor of the airing of the final episode, "Phantom Planet" I dug out some board panels and my original design for "Vortex" the weather ghost and made a model sheet out of them. I spent a lot of time trying to improve my "hand" drawings with these poses so I turned to the trusty mirror I keep by my desk in hopes of getting some more dynamic and unique hand gestures.

Here are some more random panels from my board that didn't really fit into the model sheet I was making.

One of the best parts about boarding is coming up with fun little visual moments not in the script. I thought this moment where Danny meets Vortex for the first time was worth posting. I had created a huge cloud skull where Vortex lived and here is how he came out.

Thanks everyone, I loved boarding on Danny Phantom. Butch always gave the board artists a lot of lee-way (sp?) to improvise on the script which made it especially fun!

Hey dude, firtsly these boards are great!! Secondly, I CAN'T BELIEVE we didn't get to meet you when we came into CN!! It was definitely quite a whirlwind tour and things seemed pretty quite on that day, but if only I'd thought to ask where you were hiding out... DAMN!!

Well there's always next time!!

Great model sheets Ben!!

While watching the episode I did notice more dynamic in Vortex than I had seen in other Danny Phantom villains, so I can say your 'method' with the mirror worked pretty well. I should try it some time.

Loved his design and personality, he was a kickass villain, in my opinion, with many destructive potential, and the design is just awesome-tastic! I've always enjoyed looking at 'behind the scenes' stuff such as storyboards, board panels, character designs, etc, and yours have been one of my favorite displays. You work so clean and precise, it's fantastic :) and it's great to know Butch gave you artists freedom to add stuff. He knwos you guys have potential, so it's better to let you add stuff!!

Keep it up, and good luck with whatever projects you're working on now! (both personal and Studio)

Masterful.

I really admire the ability to design a character, that was my favourite part about Vortex, is he was well drawn/designed. Much kudos!

:D (I like the original better honestly, but maybe it's easier to animate to make his forearms just green... >_> )
