Here's a collection of development for the main and title character; "Seaweed." The image of him and Poisson in the upper left corner of page one, (with the cigar) was the first image drawn back in 1998 I think. The basic elements remained the same but getting his proportions to work took some work. It always takes me a lot of drawings and struggle to get anything to work right, and it always pisses me off when I see great artists who magically make beautiful drawings just flow out of their pencils. I included a page of some stills from the comic so you can see where he ended up finally.

ReplyDeleteClark- I'm not 100% sure but I think I'm going to miss San Diego this year. God-willing I'll be there next year with something to sell...although I've been saying that for 4 years now.
As far as a sketch book, that's not really much of an interest of mine, (although, it's pretty cool that you'd want one.) I think it would still take too much time to put one together, and I really want to finish this comic book!

ReplyDeleteYou now have to show use the rest of your characters from your comic in the same way you did here. This stuff just makes me want to buy your book even more. It is a great way to build up hype for the book before you even sell it... Smart Idea. I really hope you put all of this and more in your making of book even the drawings you think are not so good; even though they will be better then anything I could do. Also I would love to be able to buy it in a hard bound cover and bigger than the standard USA comic size, more like most of the Foreign comics come in. Last, Could you tell me what you use to color your rough drawings? Not in the last picture, I can tell that you use Photoshop. But I want to know about the other ones... what is it that you used on the rough drawings.

Blecha- You lucky Bitch! Going to Chili Johns is one of the great experiences in any persons life! I am supremely jealous! The pencils used here are mostly col-erase (purple, Navy Blue, and Carmine Red) and some Prismacolor Non-Photo blue on tracing paper. Some of these were done so long ago that I don't quite remember what I used, but I used to ink with basic rollerball pens and color with Tria Letraset Markers. Now adays I ink with Pitt artist pens, a combo of the superfine, fine, and brush tips.
