Felos

Felos is another character from "Crash Nebula." He is an evil sidekick to the main villain, (Ving) alot like Crab or Goyle are to Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series. I originally drew him as a big hulking tiger, but the other sidekick was a big hulking rock guy, so Butch directed me to make him more of a sleek fast villain. After many discarded drawings, (I don't have time to scan them all now) we settled on the blue version you see on the early concepts page. Then I only needed to make him look younger and you can see the final model on the turn-around. I included a drawing guide for the over-seas animation studio as well as some clean-up drawings I did based on the amazing boards of Eric Wiese. Cleaning up Eric's boards was a great learning process for me and I always feel that was a key moment in my continuing development as an artist.

This is great, I love seeing how a design comes to life. The grayscale poses are terrific! Very cool.

ufff, wow!
the character is great, but the creation process, the model sheet (turn arounds, facial shapes, poses and attitudes, and so) is simply AN AWESOME S-U-P-E-R-P-R-O-F-F-E-S-I-O-N-A-L- WORK!!!
Lot of learning we can take from your post (I'll do my homeworks!)

Wow Ben, that's awesome! Love the construction sheet. I'm sure working at Laika is the shizzle, but how is it living in Portland?

It is interesting to hear someone at your level talk about their continuing development as an artist. I love seeing all the designs you didn't use of characters.
